Verner Panton

Verner panton was a master of futuristic style in the 1960's that introduced Pop design to furniture and interiors. During his career, he concurred a lot of ground breaking designs in a variety of materials, especially plastics. Panton started his own style when he produced the cone chair in 1959. From this chair he knew what was his pathway. Panton’s most well-known furniture models are still in production such as the cone and the Panton chair.

This cone chair was the first well known from Panton. This chair has a cone shape standing on its tip and a stainless steel base. After some experimental shapes a similar chair to it is the heart cone chair. It still have the cone effect and the tip base but since it is a heart shape it has two wings on the back. They use describe them as Mickey Mouse Ears. These chairs can get a lot of attention with their design is not something you see everyday with its shape. In my opinion the cone shape may be very comfortable to sit and rest whether the heart shape since the centre is low there is not a lot of room for your back and rest it, one cannot lay on one of the wings.

The most famous chair of Panton is the Panton chair itself. This was build because designers wanted a different form of a chair from a normal back support and four legs. Panton experimented with various materials, especially with acrylic and fiberglass-reinforced plastic as well as rigid foam. Verner Panton together with other designers that were interested in this product came to the last and best material with Luran-S, a plastic reinforced without fiberglass. In my opinion this is a breakthrough for that time to design a chair like this no one would ever imagine of a such beauty. It is still a breath taking product in the contemporary design.

Another seating with a different solution is the Amoebe chair. It is more of a low chair that can be used for a lounge area. This chair has a greater comfort thanks to its flexible backrest shell it was an amazing project for having a new idea to a chair where one can simply lay down and not falling over. For me this chair is amazing for its simplicity and again it is a one-shape chair. I think if it would be a bit higher it could be better because one can simply get tired with his feet bended to much.

Panton designed a lot of work and almost all of them were a success it might be because almost of his designs have a strange, yet eye catching look. I admire Panton work, he only looked to the future and designed with precision and for a better and fun life.
