Marc News

Marc Newson specialised more on interior and product, although he studied on other major things such as sculptures and art. Newson became popular by showing off some of his designs in a gallery in Sydney. He does not have a theme to stick on because he not only design small furniture but also bicycles, cars, yachts and even small aircrafts. His most known material is the fibreglass and aluminium. He won several awards in his last years of designing.

One of his most famous chairs is the Embryo Chair, made in 1988. Although this chair by its first look, looks bulky by the material it may feel very comfortable. He exaggerated in the foam but still it is ergonomically well. The shape of the seat is the same for the back piece, he used moulded polyurethane foam and covered it up with bi-elestic fabric. This chair stands on three chrome steel legs. For me this chair looks awesome but still a bit bulky on the material.

Another design that caught my eye are these lounge chairs called the Bucky made in 1955. These strange looking seats look very modern for that time, they are made of an organic form because it is a flowing form. They were made only in plastic and no cushions. In my opinion they are very beautifully designed but they are too big for some places to add four to five chairs you almost need a whole room and another thing that I do not like is that the back is declined to much, if you want to drink or talk you need to make a lot of effort to stand up well.
