Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen was one of the designers that made European designers follow him by his organic and natural furniture in the fifties. By using specific materials such as native woods, plywood, leather, aluminium, fiberglass and reinforced plastics. One of Jacobsen’s most spectacular works was the “EGG” chair. It is an armchair called this way by its shape. A unique form for a chair. The "egg" form it was not easy to create back in those days the bending of wood the metal structure and also the upholstery had to be stretched along the curves. It also had a foot rest the same form and material as the armchair. It stands on a cross stainless steel frame. This was one of his biggest successes in furniture design. In my opinion it looks very excellent and comfortable stay on this chair. It brings you addict to sit on and stay there.

The Ant Chair was designed in 1952; it was named this way for its similarity to a body of an ant with his head rise up depicting the back of the chair. This was designed to be light, stable, and easy to stack. The chair has three plastic legs, Jacobsen did not do four legs for the user to be comfortable and not hitting his feet with the legs of the chair. This was a splendid discovery and by this chair a new idea had been evolved. The seat is made by form-molded laminated veneer. By time the ant’s legs became tubular steel for more support. For me this chair is very unique with its shape even the three legs are very comfortable and can be put anywhere, in a waiting room up to a dining place.

Another piece of furniture is the Dot stool. It was produced a long after the Ant chair. It makes it similar due to the seat itself from the shape and the three legs. Nowadays they turned it to four legs for more support. It look amazing and very similar to the Ant. I would prefer to leave it as the original with three legs, because this way you loose the original look.
